Sarawak offers a unique blend of wildlife and culture. As local experts, here are our tips for the top experiences.
The Semenggoh Wildlife Centre is a rehabilitation center, not a zoo. The orangutans here are semi-wild and roam freely in the forest. Expert Tip: The best time to visit is during the morning (9:00 AM) or afternoon (3:00 PM) feeding sessions. This is when the orangutans may come to the platforms for a free meal. Seeing them is not guaranteed (especially if it’s fruiting season in the jungle), but when they do appear, it is an absolutely magical and unforgettable experience.

Bako National Park is one of the best places in Borneo to see wildlife in its natural habitat. To get there, you take a short boat ride, which is an adventure itself. Expert Tip: The park’s most famous resident is the Proboscis Monkey, with its large, distinctive nose. You can often spot them in the mangrove trees near the park entrance, especially in the late afternoon. The park also has beautiful walking trails, secluded beaches, and the famous “Sea Stack” rock formation.

Kuching is a charming, walkable city. Don’t miss a stroll along the Kuching Waterfront, especially at sunset, with its view of the modern Sarawak State Legislative Assembly Building. The city is famous for its “cat” theme, and you’ll find cat statues everywhere. For foodies, a visit to a local Kolo Mee stall is a must—it’s Kuching’s most famous noodle dish.
